Madden NFL 26 Drops 'Superstar Deep Dive' Trailer, New Features Ahead of Release Date

The Madden NFL 26 trailer for Superstar mode was released on Friday, and it showcases the gameplay and new features for this year's version of the iconic franchise.

There are three new features in Madden's Superstar mode this year, via EA.com and as discussed in the video.

"Our three new core features are Game Day Beats, Sphere of Influence, and Career Chapters. They all work together to amplify the most authentic and engaging career path Superstar has ever seen. From challenging gameplay modifications on the field, to relationships and consequences off the field, the player journey brings every week of the NFL season to life.

"For years, our fans have been asking for higher stakes, more consequences, and better agency in the weekly loop. While skill progression will always be a core part of player development, being an NFL Superstar is more than just an OVR number. In Madden NFL 26, we will deliver a more holistic experience that brings out the Superstar in YOU!"

Superstar mode gives games an opportunity to take an individual player from the end of their college career through the professional ranks.

For starters, people who have a player from College Football's "Road to Glory" Mode can export someone from that game, continuing the journey in Madden.

If you don't choose that route, fans can create their own player in Madden. There are two aspects to that in making a physical avatar and selecting an archetype. Different archetypes allow players to raise certain attributes.

As an example, if you choose to be a "Field General"-type quarterback, then that helps in the accuracy department. Becoming a "Scrambler"-type quarterback can help you boost your speed and agility more.

Of course, there's a give-and-take on the process, as one can't just boost their ratings to 99 in every category. Players have a limit on creation points they can use on abilities during the process, specifically in relation to core skills vs. physical skills.

As far as the actual journey goes, that quest begins at the NFL Scouting Combine, where players run through drills in hopes of improving their draft stock. Every player does the 40-yard dash and bench press, although other mini games are based on the chosen position.

During actual gameplay, fans are given performance- and action-based quests and then goals to complete. Doing so successfully leads to improvement of players' skills. The quests begin narratively. For example, perhaps a coach asks what you're going to work on as a quarterback, and if your answer is "throwing darts," then you'll get a quest to complete in your next game regarding successfully completing passes. Meeting these challenges leads to improvements in your skills and reaching the top of the NFL mountaintop.

Other tenets of the Superstar game include in-player grading, whereas players are rewarded for doing the right thing on the field, such as a running back hitting a hole properly or a wide receiver running the correct route.

Madden NFL 26 will be released on Thursday, August 14 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-ordering the Deluxe edition or the MVP bundle, though, will allow players to access the game as soon as Aug. 11.
