Chad Gable Reportedly to Undergo Surgery Following Injury Angle with Penta on WWE Raw
WWE Superstar Chad Gable's backstage confrontation with Penta on this week's episode of Monday Night Raw didn't go his way, but it reportedly was necessary for a deeper reason.
According to PWInsider Elite (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News), the segment was used as a way to write Gable off television, as he's set to undergo surgery in early July to address an undisclosed injury.
Gable and Penta had a brief brawl backstage on Monday that culminated with Penta using his Sacrifice armbar and appearing to injure Gable's shoulder:
Gable's injury will undoubtedly lead to creative changes in WWE, as he was a staple on the midcard of Monday Night Raw for the past few months while mentoring young stars Ivy Nile and the Creed Brothers. The veteran had been pulling double duty in his own storylines and as the masked newcomer El Grande Americano, though it should be noted that he hasn't officially been revealed as the man under the mask.
It's not yet clear how much time Gable will miss, but this setback is yet another injury blow to WWE as the Evolution and SummerSlam premium live events draw nearer. Women's Tag Team Champion Liv Morgan suffered a dislocated shoulder in a recent match on Monday Night Raw. Popular WWE Superstar Kevin Owens announced in April that he was undergoing neck surgery, and he remains out indefinitely.
Without Gable on the show, fans will certainly be curious to see who WWE tabs to fill his role as a top midcard performer.
