Shaquill Griffin, Seahawks Reportedly Agree to Contract Ahead of 2025 NFL Season

Veteran cornerback Shaquill Griffin is returning to the Pacific Northwest after agreeing to a contract with the Seattle Seahawks, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

The one-year deal is worth $3 million and Griffin can earn up to $4 million, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Griffin spent his first four seasons in Seattle, a stretch that included his lone Pro Bowl appearance in 2019.

He parlayed his Seahawks tenure into a three-year, $44.5 million deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021.

The 29-year-old only appeared in 19 games for the Jags across two seasons before they waived him in a cost-savings maneuver. He split the 2023 campaign between the Houston Texans and Carolina Panthers.

Last spring, Griffin landed with the Minnesota Vikings and carved out a supporting role in their secondary. Appearing in every game, he finished with 41 tackles and intercepted two passes.

According to Pro Football Reference, quarterbacks completed 54.4 percent of their passes and had a 75.8 rating when targeting Griffin through the air.

While the experienced defensive back is familiar with his new surroundings, a lot has changed since he last suited up for the Seahawks.

Head coach Mike Macdonald, defensive coordinator Aden Durde and defensive backs coach Karl Scott were all hired after he left. The secondary is unrecognizable from 2020 as well.

Still, Griffin has a proven track record and comes at a relatively low price. At least one more addition was needed after Seattle didn't address the position in the 2025 NFL draft.

Griffin provide depth at cornerback behind Riq Woolen and Devon Witherspoon, and he could fight for snaps with Josh Jobe.
