Top Night of Champions Matches to Watch

John Cena vs. CM Punk

CM Punk is arguably the greatest rival of John Cena's career, so it is fitting that they will clash for perhaps the final time during Cena's retirement tour.

In 2011, Punk vowed to beat Cena for the WWE Championship at Money in the Bank and leave the company with it in his possession since his contract was set to expire.

Punk did precisely that, although he returned soon after to continue what was a highly entertaining feud with Cena.

Now, Cena is the WWE champion, and as part of his heel character, he has promised to retire as champion and take it with him so that he is the last real world champ in WWE history.

There was even a callback to the 2011 rivalry on last week's SmackDown when Cena spoofed Punk's iconic "pipebomb" promo by recycling some of the same lines and turning them around on Punk.

Cena has received some criticism for the quality of his matches during his retirement tour, but Punk has always brought out the best in him, and based on the heat their feud has generated, there is reason to believe they will be able to make magic once again.

Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton

For the first time since 2013, Cody Rhodes will face his longtime friend, Randy Orton, in a singles match at Night of Champions.

From 2008 to 2010, Rhodes and Orton were part of a stable called Legacy, and while they had some matches against each other in the years that followed, the stakes will be higher than ever on Saturday.

The American Nightmare and The Viper have both reached the King of Ring final, and the winner will both become King of the Ring and earn a world title match at SummerSlam.

A match against Orton has been among the most highly anticipated bouts for Cody ever since he returned to WWE three years ago, and it is fitting that the match is finally set to happen with so much hanging in the balance.

Rhodes is widely expected to win and then likely have a WrestleMania 41 rematch against Cena at SummerSlam, but even if the match proves to be predictable, Rhodes and Orton have a great chance to steal the show.

Asuka vs. Jade Cargill

For the third time in WWE history, an official Queen of the Ring will be crowned on Saturday, and the tourney has come down to a pair of unique performers in Asuka and Jade Cargill.

Asuka recently returned after missing over a year of action due to injury, and she seemingly hasn't missed a step, as she won a pair of matches to reach the QOTR finals.

Cargill also missed significant time with an injury in late 2024 and early 2025, which was caused in storyline by her former friend in Naomi.

Jade has been on fire since her return, and Night of Champions represents a chance to secure the biggest win of her career, as beating Asuka would mean her first-ever one-on-one match for a singles title in WWE at SummerSlam.

Asuka has competed for and won countless singles titles over the years in WWE, but given how long she was out, it would undoubtedly feel fresh and exciting for her to be back in the title mix as well.

Cargill and Asuka are at opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of their experience and in-ring style, but they have never had a singles match against each other, and the clash of styles could make for something highly entertaining.
