The Red Wings will unveil a centennial jersey later this summer, according to the team.
After entering the league as the Detroit Cougars, the franchise originally played with the "Cougar D" as a central logo during their inaugural season in 1926.
The "D" is coming back as a secondary mark during the centennial season, according to the team.
After playing two seasons as the Detroit Falcons, the Red Wings changed their name and adopted the Winged Wheel logo in 1932.
Both the centennial logo and another secondary mark feature a redrawn version of the wheel used on the team's jerseys from 1932 to 1948, according to the team.
This logo will likely be incorporated into the team's yet-to-be-revealed centennial uniform. Red Wings press release states that the jersey "will pay tribute to the franchise’s rich history by blending both modern and original detailing."
The franchise is further celebrating the centennial with a fan festival held at MotorCity Casino and Hotel from Nov. 6-9 and a season-long exhibit at the Detroit Historical Museum, according to the team.
The Red Wings, New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks are all celebrating their centennial anniversaries next season as the final Original Six teams to hit the 100-year mark in the NHL. The Rangers revealed their centennial logo back in March:
The Boston Bruins, Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs are the only other NHL teams to have celebrated their 100-year anniversaries.
No other NHL teams will be celebrating their centennial anniversaries for the next few decades. The NHL didn't expand past six clubs until 1967, when the California Seals, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota North Stars, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins and St. Louis Blues joined the league.
