DeWanna Bonner Reportedly Eyes Fever Exit After Joining Caitlin Clark in Offseason

Timothy RappJun 24, 2025

Just nine games into her time with the Indiana Fever, DeWanna Bonner may be seeking an exit.

Annie Costabile of Front Office Sports reported Tuesday that, "According to multiple league sources, the two-time WNBA champion has no interest in returning to play for the Fever. Those same sources indicated Bonner's preferred landing spots are with the Phoenix Mercury or the Atlanta Dream."

Bonner will miss her fifth straight game for the Fever on Tuesday for what has been deemed as "personal reasons."

Signing Bonner was one of the Fever's major offseason moves as they looked to build a contender around Caitlin Clark, which also included signing Natasha Howard and re-signing Sydney Colson.

Bonner started the first three games for the team but failed to make much of an impact, averaging 2.6 points and 4.6 rebounds while shooting just 2-of-12 from the field. She was then moved to the bench in favor of Lexie Hull and had her moments in the new role, which included scoring 21 points in a May 28 loss to the Washington Mystics and 13 points in a May 30 to the Connecticut Sun.

Still, her 7.1 points and 3.8 rebounds per game this season have been a far cry from the 15 points and six rebounds she averaged for the Sun a season ago.

According to Costabile, "Multiple sources told Front Office Sports that the fit in Indiana was 'off' from the beginning. Bonner—who was signed to be an anchor with championship experience for the team's young core—was expected to be a starter."

The Fever, meanwhile, have been up-and-down this season and now sit at 6-7, eighth in the WNBA.

At this point, it sounds like a change of scenery for Bonner is the best-case scenario for all parties involved.
