Trevor Zegras Traded to Flyers, Ducks Get Ryan Poehling, NHL Draft Picks
The Philadelphia Flyers are bolstering their young core with the addition of Trevor Zegras.
The Anaheim Ducks are trading Zegras to the Flyers in exchange for center Ryan Poehling and two draft picks, the team announced Monday.
The package includes the No. 45 pick of the 2025 draft and a fourth-rounder in 2026.
The update comes shortly after Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported the Ducks were in "significant conversations" with multiple teams about potentially trading Zegras.
Zegras has one year and $5.75 million remaining on his contract before he is set to hit restricted free agency next summer.
The 24-year-old started out his NHL career with consecutive 23-goal campaigns but has missed significant time due to injury over the last two seasons.
He recorded 12 goals and 32 points in 57 games during his 2024-25 campaign for the Ducks.
Zegras was limited to 31 games in 2023-24 due to injuries, including a broken left ankle that necessitated surgery in January 2024.
He missed more time last season, including a torn meniscus in his right knee that required surgery in December.
Zegras' puck-handling skills made him an exciting part of the Ducks' young core as the team began its ongoing rebuild by selecting him with the No. 9 pick of the 2019 draft.
Prior to his injuries he was developing into a star playmaker while making highlight reels for his offense, including multiple lacrosse-style goals.
After Zegras returned from his latest surgery to rejoin the Ducks this January. Former Anaheim head coach Greg Cronin praised him as having an "elite" offensive IQ.
"He’s one of those rare people that, he’s two plays ahead and then, when he goes back to the bench, if you ask him what happened, what he was looking for, he’s seeing it through the eyes of like a video," Cronin said in January.
The Flyers are betting Zegras can use that vision to live up to the offensive potential he demonstrated earlier in his career.
Zegras will meanwhile hope slotting in with a young core highlighted by Matvei Michkov, Bobby Brink and Cam York will help him rebound ahead of his contract year.
