Chances were few and far between for Johnson in the 2014/15 campaign, though, and after Liverpool decided not to renew his deal, Stoke came calling.

The 30-year-old will now join up with manager Mark Hughes and his new team-mates in Singapore ahead of next weekโs Barclays Asia Trophy, and Hughes told the clubโs official website that heโs delighted with the Pottersโ latest recruit:
"Glen will be a fantastic addition to our squad. He commanded a huge transfer fee when he left Portsmouth for Liverpool but dealt with the pressure that comes with that.ย Heโs a talented defender who also chips in with goalsโas we discovered last season when he scored the winner against us at Anfieldโand having spoken to him I know how much heโs looking forward to being a Stoke player.
"

Johnson becomes the sixth signing of the summer for Stoke, who are looking to build on their impressive ninth-place finish in the Premier League last time around.
The Englishman will compete with Geoff Cameron for a slot at right-back, with the hope that regular football will bring him back into the international frame.
