Angel Reese's Double-Double vs. Brittney Griner Not Enough for Sky in Loss to Dream

Doric SamJun 22, 2025

Chicago Sky star Angel Reese had a productive outing in Sunday afternoon's matchup against the Atlanta Dream, but she couldn't get her team over the hump.

The Sky suffered a 93-80 loss despite Reese's double-double, extending their losing streak to three straight games. While going up against veteran forward Britney Griner, Reese chipped in 10 points, 19 rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block to help support star guard Ariel Atkins' 29-point performance, but it wasn't enough to overcome the depth of the Dream.

The two teams were tied at 69 at the end of the third quarter, but Atlanta pulled away early in the final frame with a 15-2 run that put the game out of reach.

The Dream (10-4) had five players score in double figures, led by star guard Rhyne Howard's 22 points. Allisha Gray added 19 points and Te-Hina Paopao had 16 points off the bench. Brionna Jones recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Naz Hillmon came off the bench and notched 12 points.

Elizabeth Williams added 16 points off the bench for the Sky, 14 of which came in the first quarter, but they didn't get much help from the rest of their reserves. Rookie guard Hailey Van Lith had just two points, though they came in acrobatic fashion.

As for Reese, she had another disjointed performance and shot just 3-of-11 from the field. She made all four of her free throws, but she led Chicago with three turnovers.

The loss dropped the Sky to 3-10 amid their continued struggles. Chicago's defense has left much to be desired, as the team surrendered a combined 200 points over its last two losses.

Reese and the Sky will try to get back on track when they return to action on Tuesday against the Los Angeles Sparks (4-10).
