Livvy Dunne Responds to Photo of Detroit Tigers Mascot's Sign During Paul Skenes Start

Andrew PetersJun 19, 2025

While former LSU gymnast Livvy Dunne spent the past five years as a Tiger, she let it be known that she doesn't have the same allegiances to tigers at the MLB level.

During the Pittsburgh Pirates' matchup against the Detroit Tigers on Thursday, with Dunne's boyfriend, Paul Skenes, on the mound, Detroit's mascot tried to get Dunne's attention. He held up a sign reading "Sup Livvy Dunne."

Dunne responded on social media.

"Sorry... not my type of tiger," she wrote.

Skenes and Dunne both left LSU with memorable legacies. Skenes was a National Player of the Year and led the Tigers to a national championship in 2023. Dunne also won a national title with LSU in 2024.

While the Tigers' mascot got turned down by Dunne, he can rest assured knowing his team is finding much more success than Skenes'. Detroit is in control of the AL Central at 48-27 and has a pair of wins over the Pirates this week.

Despite the Pirates' struggles, Skenes has had another fantastic season. The 2024 Rookie of the Year leads the majors with a 1.78 ERA and has the second-best WHIP at 0.88. Arguably, the only pitcher who has been on his level this year is the Tigers' own Tarik Skubal, who has a 2.06 ERA and an MLB-best 0.85 WHIP.

Despite Skenes' individual success, Pittsburgh sits in last place in the NL Central at 29-46 and appears on its way to another missed postseason. The Pirates haven't been to the playoffs since 2015, but they at least have a bright young star in Skenes.
