Giants' Malik Nabers 'Doing Good' in Toe Injury Rehab, No Concern About Camp Status

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll expressed confidence Wednesday that wide receiver Malik Nabers will be ready for the start of training camp next month.

While speaking to reporters Wednesday, Daboll said Nabers is "doing good" and that he had no concern about his availability for training camp despite the fact that he did not participate in on-field work during OTAs, nor has he done so at minicamp:

Daboll divulged to ESPN's Jordan Raanan last month that Nabers has been rehabbing a toe injury that impacted him during his rookie season.

With regard to the decision to keep Nabers off the field in OTAs and minicamp, Daboll said Wednesday that the Giants have done "what we thought was best for Malik" in an effort to get him healthy.

Following a standout collegiate career at LSU, Nabers went sixth overall to the Giants in the 2024 NFL draft, and he didn't disappoint as a rookie.

Starting 13 of the 15 games he appeared in, Nabers recorded 109 receptions for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns, earning him a Pro Bowl selection and a fifth-place finish in the Offensive Rookie of the Year voting.

Most impressively, Nabers accomplished that despite missing some time with a concussion and despite less-than-stellar play from the quarterback position.

Daniel Jones, Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito all started games under center for New York last season, while Tim Boyle saw some action as well. They all combined for just 15 touchdown passes and 13 interceptions.

General manager Joe Schoen overhauled the quarterback room this offseason, signing veteran free agents Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, and using the No. 25 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft on Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart.

It is anyone's guess who will win the starting quarterback job in training camp, but any or all of them could potentially be better than what the Giants had at quarterback last season.

Of course, a healthy and productive Nabers will play a significant role in the success of New York's quarterbacks, as he is the unquestioned No. 1 receiver entering his second NFL season.

The Giants didn't add much to their receiving corps this offseason, instead opting for continuity. Darius Slayton, Wan'Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt are all back in the fold with the biggest addition being journeyman Zach Pascal.

If the Giants are going to bounce back from the NFL-worst 3-14 record they posted last season, the offense will have to improve significantly, and that starts with Nabers and the passing game.
