Yankees' Aaron Boone Talks Offensive Struggles Amid 29-Inning Scoreless Streak

Joseph ZuckerJun 18, 2025

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone believes his hitters are pressing a bit after failing to score a run for a third straight game.

"You want to be the guy to get the hit, get it going," he said after a 4-0 loss to the Los Angeles Angels, per ESPN's Jorge Castillo. "But that's where the patience comes in. You can't obsess on the result. You can't go up there [thinking], 'I gotta get a hit. I gotta do this.' It's got to be, 'I gotta take a tough at-bat.' And when you're doing that, that's when the pitches in your zone show up and that's when you take advantage. And this group will do that."

The Yankees' scoreless streak is 29 innings and counting. They last touched home plate in the final frame of their June 14 defeat to the Boston Red Sox. Castillo noted this is the longest period in which the Bronx Bombers have failed to get a run since September 2016.

It's important to maintain some perspective. An MLB season is a long grind and lends itself to some fallow periods like this.

"We just kind of talked about it; early on, the offense carried us," Yankees pitcher Will Warren said. "That's what makes us a team. You're going to go through these ebbs and flows of the season. We'd rather have that right now than come postseason."

The downside of playing in New York is that the lows get magnified just as much as the highs. A few bad games will be a frequent topic of discussion online and on the airwaves.

The Yankees maintain a 2.5-game lead on the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East, and things will level off eventually. A lineup with Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger and a returning Giancarlo Stanton can't be this bad forever.

It might only take one big performance for New York's bats to wake up again.
