Lamar Jackson Reacts to Possibly Being NFL's Highest-Paid Player on Next Contract

Joseph ZuckerJun 17, 2025

Baltimore Ravens star Lamar Jackson remained mum on negotiations with the team on a new contract, but he does at least like the idea of becoming the NFL's highest-paid player again.

Jackson told reporters Tuesday he makes a point to never publicly discuss "contract situations." When asked to respond to comments from head coach John Harbaugh about the two-time MVP eventually resetting the market, he admitted, "It sounds good."

During the NFL league meetings in March, Harbaugh stated the obvious when he said Jackson is "going to be the highest-paid player in football" when an extension materializes.

There's a chance the 28-year-old could leave some money on the table like Josh Allen did with his $330 million extension. The Buffalo Bills quarterback now has an average salary of $55 million, which didn't catapult him past the Dallas Cowboys' Dak Prescott.

Considering Jackson didn't do that the last time around, it stands to reason he'll drive a hard bargain once again.

There's plenty of time for an agreement to come together. The decorated signal-caller won't hit free agency until 2027.

Still, Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta will know that giving Jackson the NFL's biggest salary now will be cheaper in the long run than giving him a raise in a few years. By then, one or more players may have surpassed Prescott and set an even higher bar for Baltimore to clear.
