Jags GM Says Travis Hunter Can Play WR, CB and Dismisses Concerns About Stamina

Joseph ZuckerJun 17, 2025

Jacksonville Jaguars general manager James Gladstone believes rookie standout Travis Hunter has the stamina that will be required to play both ways in the NFL.

Gladstone said Tuesday on SiriusXM NFL Radio that Hunter "does not tire" and possesses "the capacity from a physical standpoint to be able to do it."

The GM remained noncommittal about Hunter's usage, though.

Jacksonville had the No. 2 pick begin to take reps on offense and defense toward the end of minicamp. But Gladstone called it a "misconception" to assume any split reflects his future usage. He said the Jags coaches believe Hunter has a steeper learning curve at wideout and requires more work to refine his game there than at cornerback.

ESPN's Michael DiRocco reported on June 12 the team was still mapping out Hunter's role, and this is likely to remain a fluid process into the regular season. It's impossible to know whether the Heisman Trophy winner can be a two-way player in games that matter until he gets that experience.

Still, Gladstone's comments will be encouraging for those hoping to see Hunter break new ground in the NFL.

The primary concern is that the physical rigors of pro football are too much for anybody to truly be a two-way talent. Understanding the nuances of two entirely different positions is a lot to absorb as well.

The Jaguars' training camp will provide more insight into how Hunter will balance his on-field duties out of the gate.
