Lamar Jackson Pushes Ravens GM to Sign Jaire Alexander after CB Released by Packers

Scott PolacekJun 17, 2025

Lamar Jackson wants to reunite with former college teammate Jaire Alexander, and he didn't hesitate to let Baltimore Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta know about it.

"Go get him, Eric," Jackson said Tuesday when discussing Alexander's availability, per Jonas Shaffer of the Baltimore Banner.

The quarterback also revealed he has already spoken to the free agent cornerback.

Alexander is available because the Green Bay Packers released him earlier this month after seven seasons with the team. Albert Breer of The MMQB reported prior to the release that Alexander preferred to be cut rather than traded to give him more say in where he ended up for the 2025 campaign.

Jackson knows how effective Alexander can be at his best considering they were teammates at Louisville from 2015-17 before they were both first-round picks in the 2018 NFL draft.

The cornerback largely lived up to expectations with the Packers after they used a first-round selection on him. He was a two-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro Second Team selection and consistently defended the opponent's best wide receiver.

However, durability has been a significant concern of late seeing how he played four games in 2021 and seven games in each of the last two seasons. His lack of availability was magnified by four-year, $84 million contract extension he signed in 2022, and the financial situation played a role in Green Bay's decision:

Yet Alexander is also a proven defensive playmaker who is still just 28 years old and perhaps more motivated than ever after the only NFL team he has ever known moved on from him this offseason.

Baltimore is in a division with Joe Burrow, Aaron Rodgers, Ja'Marr Chase, DK Metcalf, Tee Higgins and other offensive weapons and could certainly use a veteran presence such as his in the secondary when attempting to slow down those aerial attacks.

And its on-field leader made it perfectly clear he wants the cornerback on the roster for the 2025 campaign.
