NFL Coach Says Jets' Mason Taylor is 'F--king Awesome' and Was No. 2 TE on Big Board

One veteran NFL offensive coach is a big fan of New York Jets rookie tight end Mason Taylor, calling him "f--king awesome" and noting that he was the No. 2 tight end on his NFL draft big board.

Those remarks were captured by ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, who talked with NFL executives and scouts about their favorite offseason moves.

"He's f---ing awesome. He was my No. 2 tight end (behind Chicago's Colston Loveland). He's athletic, he's young (21) and he's got upside in the passing game," the coach said.

Taylor landed third among tight ends on the final B/R NFL scouting department rankings behind Loveland and Penn State's Tyler Warren.

"Overall, Mason Taylor projects as a top-two tight end on the offensive depth chart," B/R NFL Scout Dame Parson wrote.

"He is a good and reliable pass catcher. Taylor can defeat man but excels against zone coverages where his instincts are essential. He can be an adequate starting tight end if given the opportunity!"

Taylor, who caught 55 passes for 546 yards and two touchdowns during his junior (2024) season at LSU, is in line to be TE1 for the Jets in 2025.

The No. 42 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft (second round) will assuredly get chances to produce right away for a Jets team looking to make the playoffs for the first time since 2010.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn is a fan for sure, saying this last month during the team's rookie camp (h/t Brian Costello of the New York Post).

“Mason is exactly who we thought he was,” Glenn said. “He has dynamic movements. He can really catch the ball. He did a good job catching the ball away from his body. He’s quick to bring it in and get north and south exactly like we want.”

New York ultimately has great expectations for Taylor. In the meantime, the team continues its offseason program with an eye toward training camp in late July.
