Dodgers Reportedly 'Lurking' on Marlins' Sandy Alcantara Ahead of MLB Trade Deadline

The Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly “lurking” as potential suitors for Miami Marlins ace Sandy Alcantara ahead of the MLB trade deadline, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.

Alcantara, who underwent Tommy John surgery in October 2023, has fully ramped up his game again and is back in action. The 29-year-old holds a 3-7 record with a 7.14 ERA, 50 strikeouts and a 1.49 WHIP.

As the Marlins stumble through the season with a 28-41 record—fifth-worst in the league—Alcantara is shaping up to be one of their top trade chips ahead of the deadline.

The right-hander has posted a 1.50 ERA over his last two starts and is touching 97.6 mph on his fastball, making him an enticing addition for any contending rotation.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers are eyeing a major boost to their rotation as they plan to have their MVP pitcher Shohei Ohtani make his long-awaited return to the mound Monday against the San Diego Padres as the team’s starter, likely as an opener at first.
