The United States Men's National Team cruised to a commanding 5-0 victory over Trinidad and Tobago in Group D action of the Concacaf Gold Cup on Sunday in San Jose, California.
Fans reacted to the United States dominant opening match of the tournament:
Midfielder Malik Tillman sparked the offense with goals in the 16th and 41st minutes, giving the U.S. a 2-0 cushion. Just three minutes later, forward Patrick Agyemang added a third in the 44th minute to cap off a dominant first half and send the Americans into the break up 3-0.
In a total defensive breakdown by Trinidad and Tobago, the U.S. poured it on late as midfielder Brenden Aaronson netted a goal in the 82nd minute, followed by forward Haji Wright striking just two minutes later in the 84th. Both substitutes made an immediate impact, pushing the U.S. to a dominant 5-0 lead with six minutes remaining in regulation.
The United States controlled possession for 70.4 percent of the match, firing off 21 total shots with 11 on target without being shown any yellow cards
Historically, the U.S. has had the upper hand against Trinidad and Tobago, holding a 4-1 record in head-to-head matchups since 2019. Their only loss in that stretch came in their most recent meeting in November 2023 during the Concacaf Nations League.
The USMNT is set to face Saudi Arabia on Thursday in another Group Stage matchup, with kickoff slated for Austin, Texas.
