Willy Adames Says Giants 'Are So Excited' to Add Rafael Devers in Rumored Trade

The San Francisco Giants reportedly completed a trade with the Boston Red Sox for star slugger Rafael Devers, and his new team is ready to welcome him to the Bay Area.

During Sunday night's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Giants shortstop Willy Adames told the ESPN broadcast that "everybody's so excited" for Devers to join the team.

The Red Sox surprisingly decided to trade Devers shortly after he launched his 15th home run of the season in their 2-0 win over the rival New York Yankees on Sunday. ESPN's Jeff Passan reported that Boston acquired left-handed starter Kyle Harrison, right-hander Jordan Hicks, outfield prospect James Tibbs and another prospect in the deal and that the Giants will be absorbing the entire $250 million remaining on Devers' contract.

Devers, who has primarily been a designated hitter this season, gives San Francisco a reliable replacement at third base for Matt Chapman while he recovers from the hand injury he suffered earlier this month. His 15 homers and 58 RBI are more than any other player on the Giants. Chapman led the current group with 12 home runs before his injury.

"Me personally, I'm thrilled to have him on the team," Adames added of Devers. "Obviously, he's one of the best hitters in the game. To have him on the team, I think it's gonna help us to do a lot of damage in this division. Obviously, we need a bat like him in this lineup. So now, when we get Chappy back in the lineup, it's gonna be exciting."

At 41-30 entering Sunday's series finale, the Giants trail the Dodgers (42-29) by one game for the lead in the NL West. San Francisco will be hoping that Devers can help knock Los Angeles from its perch atop the division as the team eyes a deep playoff run.
