The Valkyries initially selected Chen with a third-round pick in the 2025 WNBA draft, although she was waived by the team before the start of the regular season.
She signed with the 3x3 Basketball Association following her release, but is now back in the WNBA.
Golden State will need better depth moving forward with Janelle Salaün and Julie Vanloo temporarily leaving the team to participate in the upcoming EuroBasket tournament starting on Wednesday.
Chen appeared in two 2025 preseason contests with the Valkyries, scoring two points and pulling down three rebounds while recording one assist in just over 12 total minutes on the floor.
Chen opened her college career at Princeton, winning 2023 Ivy League Player of the Year honors. She suited up for the Tigers from 2021 through 2024 before transferring to UConn ahead of the 2024-25 season.
She served as a starter alongside Bueckers on a Huskies squad that finished with a 37-3 record and won a national title. Chen averaged 6.9 points, 3.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game on 51.4/35.4/84.2 shooting splits during her lone year at UConn.
The Valkyries currently sit at No. 8 in the WNBA standings with a 5-5 record, although they're in the midst of a three-game win streak.
They'll look to continue stacking up victories on Tuesday, as Chen could potentially make her regular-season debut against her college teammate.
