Angel Reese Posts 1st Career Triple-Double as Sky Beat Sun in WNBA Commissioner's Cup

Joseph ZuckerJun 15, 2025

Angel Reese notched her first triple-double in the WNBA as the Chicago Sky beat the Connecticut Sun 78-66 on Sunday afternoon.

The Sky forward finished with 11 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists in 36 minutes on the floor.

Fans have grown accustomed to seeing Reese eclipse double figures in points and boards. She set a record as a rookie with 15 straight double-doubles. Prior to Sunday, however, she had never dished out more than five assists in a game.

Including the three steals and one block from her stat line, Reese did a little bit of everything against Connecticut.

Head coach Tyler Marsh will be encouraged by what he saw from Hailey Van Lith as well.

Marsh is still taking the rookie guard's development slowly in the wake of Courtney Vandersloot's season-ending injury. The more experienced Rebecca Allen got promoted to the starting lineup to take Vandersloot's spot.

Van Lith's 16 points off the bench were a season high and a promising sign.

In general, Chicago remains a work in progress and taking down one of the WNBA's worst teams doesn't prove too much on its own. But fans will have loved Reese and Van Lith's performances.

The Sky host the Washington Mystics on Tuesday night in their next game. It's the first time the teams have met this season. Playing Washington, which had lost six of seven before beating the Sun on June 8, is a good opportunity for Chicago to stay the win column.

Connecticut hit the road on Tuesday to play the Indiana Fever, who are fresh off handing the New York Liberty their first defeat. Caitlin Clark also had 32 points in her first game back from a quad injury. The Sun will have their hands full.
