Buy or sell Goldberg Retirement Update, Usos Reunion, WWE's Biggest Fear and more
A cool summer heated up quickly for the pro wrestling rumor mill.
Thank WWE for simply putting the proverbial pedal to the metal across the board. Money in the Bank saw the arrival of two briefcases to mix up main event scenes. And if that wasn’t enough, Jey Uso turned around and lost his top title to Gunther.
Now, there’s just a short break in action before yet another PLE, this time Night of Champions on June 28 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That card apparently boasts a title match between John Cena and CM Punk, plus the standard King and Queen of the Ring tournament finals.
There’s suddenly much for fans to keep up with across the board, so here’s a look at the top rumors and whether they should buy or sell on each.
WWE scared of audiences hijacking shows?
1 of 5
The Rumor
The R-Truth fallout continues. According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer (h/t Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats), some in WWE now “fear” crowds hijacking shows as a response to the situation.
Reaction
This one seems silly. It doesn’t vibe like a Daniel Bryan situation much at all. Fans will voice displeasure or not and the company can still react accordingly. If those up top in WWE are that afraid of hijacking, the easy course of action is not to make terrible booking decisions…and to not let go of beloved Superstars in the name of saving a few bucks while there are new ads plastered all over the place on mats and the like.
Buy or Sell?
Buy. It’s a silly buy, but buy it anyway. WWE’s moves at and since WrestleMania have created this environment where they need to be concerned about audience backlash. We’ll see if it goes beyond walking back the R-Truth decision or not.
Goldberg plans?
2 of 5
The Rumor
The Goldberg buzz just keeps growing. According ot Viper of Bodyslam.net (h/t Ortman), the veteran will return to WWE soon, the idea possibly being a reitmerent program held in mid-July in Atlanta. PW Insider (h/t Ortman) later reported that Goldberg will be a regular name on weekly programming until that retirement match.
Reaction
Building a fitting end to his pro wrestling career will take some time, so it makes sense that Goldberg would be a regular on weekly programming. Doing it in his billed hometown of Atlanta, Georgia also makes a lot of sense.
Buy or Sell?
Easy buy. The summer months are a good time to do all this for a legend. And now that a world title is back on Gunther, going back to that already-hinted feud would be a smart course of action. Maybe the end result is predictable, but it should be a fun way to say goodbye to an icon.
Entrance music buzz
3 of 5
The Rumor
Entrance music continues to be a topic of discussion and is now looping in major names. According to BodySlam.net’s Cory Hays (h/t Ortman), Seth Rollins is one of the guys getting new music.
Reaction
No word on when in the report, but it’s nice to hear regardless. Not that Rollins, specifically, has bad entrance music. But the generic, bland stuff they give wrestlers needs a mixup and it’s hard not to like the idea of a “mainstream artist” or band getting their hands on the responsibility.
Buy or Sell?
Buy. There have been plenty of negatives since the change to Netflix and the TKO merger in terms of things feeling more corporate. WWE broadening its horizons and getting big-name artists to do entrance music, though, is one of the silver linings.
Bella twins back?
4 of 5
The Rumor
Nikki Bella is back…and might not be alone. According to WrestleVotes (h/t Ortman), WWE would also like to get Brie Bella back on the roster, perhaps for a match at the all-women's Evolution event.
Reaction
Getting the Bella twins back would be a fun time for fans. It’s not just a nostalgia thing, either, as it would be fun to see their impact on the entire women’s division and interactions with the new top stars.
Buy or Sell?
Buy. Even if it’s just doing due diligence, of course WWE would put feelers out about completing the duo. If Nikki is really back for an extended run, getting Brie back would make it all the more interesting.
Usos tag team?
5 of 5
The Rumor
With Jey Uso losing his tag title, is he going back to the tag division? As Ortman pointed out, one of the loudest bits of buzz right now is an official Usos reunion, especially after a Xavier Woods reaction video to Jey’s big loss.
Reaction
An Usos reunion is inevitable. The question has always been when. Is now the right time ahead of SummerSlam? Or is it more of a WrestleMania thing now that they had their one-on-one encounter and Jey had his big solo run?
Buy or Sell?
Sell. It feels like there’s more left to Jey’s solo run. And some would probably like to see Jey back in Roman Reigns’ orbit in some capacity, too. Tying him down in the tag division now risks it vibing like a demotion. Inevitable, but the timing doesn’t necessarily feel right.
