Mike Evans Hypes Bucs WRs, 'Might be The Best Receiving Room I've Been a Part Of'

Joseph ZuckerJun 13, 2025

Tampa Bay Buccaneers star Mike Evans was effusive in his praise of rookie wideout Emeka Egbuka and the team's WR room as a whole.

"I know I say it a lot, but this might be the best receiving room I've been a part of," Evans said Thursday, per NFL.com's Kevin Patra. "I say that every year, but we always get great players to come in, so that's been very fortunate for me in my career to be around great young players. And they've added to the room tremendously. They're already very polished. Emeka's really strong hands, super smart, Tez [Johnson] is speed, quickness."

The depth chart doesn't look a whole lot different from 2024 with Evans returning and Chris Godwin re-signing with Tampa Bay on a three-year deal. Egbuka and Johnson were the big additions through the 2025 NFL draft, and Evans is particularly excited about the former Ohio State star.

"He looks like a running back, but I mean, he catches like Chris Godwin," he said. "He's a very polished, very well-rounded player."

Some veterans in Evans' position might have a slightly different mindset than him. In the short term, Egbuka could siphon away some receiving targets. Looking at the bigger picture, he may be the eventual successor to Evans, who's only signed for one more season.

Rather than being discouraged, Egbuka's arrival lit a fire under the six-time Pro Bowler.

"It gives me more motivation like I was once in those shoes, and I remember that hunger, and it helps me keep that hunger, seeing young, great players like that that are hungry," he said.

For fantasy football managers, Evans' endorsement of Egbuka is something to keep in mind on draft night.
