The two have met multiple times in the past. Mahomes is notably a part owner of MLS' Sporting Kansas City, and he met up with Messi prior to Inter Miami's game with the club in April 2024.
They also posed with the World Cup trophy in April.
Argentina is looking for back-to-back World Cups. Messi hasn't officially been announced as a participant on the 2026 squad, although one can surmise it's far more likely than not the legend will be playing. In the meantime, he's leading Inter Miami through the MLS season and group play at the FIFA Club World Cup.
Meanwhile, Mahomes, the three-time Super Bowl champion, is hoping to lead the Chiefs back to the championship after his team fell 40-22 to the Philadelphia Eagles last season. Kansas City has notably won the AFC five of the last six seasons.
