49ers GM Calls Brock Purdy, George Kittle, Fred Warner Contracts 'Easy Decisions'

Doric SamJun 12, 2025

The San Francisco 49ers handed out major contract extensions to star players Brock Purdy, George Kittle and Fred Warner, and general manager John Lynch feels they were worth every penny.

During an appearance on Thursday's episode of The Pat McAfee Show, Lynch said the extensions for the star trio were "pretty easy decisions."

The 49ers rewarded Purdy with a five-year, $265 million contract extension. Per Over the Cap, his average annual salary of $53 million is higher than quarterbacks like Super Bowl winner Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles and former NFL MVPs Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens and Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs.

"Brock's our quarterback, and that was an easy kind of think-tank session, like going into this offseason, 'Is this the guy we want to be our quarterback?' We all looked at each other and said, 'Absolutely,'" Lynch said.

Kittle is now the highest-paid tight end in the NFL after signing a four-year, $76.4 million extension. Warner is also the highest-paid linebacker in the league following his three-year, $63 million deal.

"They've really kind of been the standard for who we want to be as a team, so to be able to lock those guys up, our third contracts with them, was a big deal for us," Lynch said of Warner and Kittle.

Lynch also acknowledged that the 49ers had to "go through a little bit of a transformation" this offseason by releasing or trading a slew of key players to pave the way for the extensions for Purdy, Kittle and Warner. The team suffered major losses on the defensive side with the departures of Dre Greenlaw, Talanoa Hufanga, and Charvarius Ward, among others.

"You can't pay everyone," Lynch said. "To be able to pay this core, to be able to pay our quarterback, we had to watch some good players go."
