A'ja Wilson Suffers Head Injury, Ruled Out of Aces' Loss to Sparks

Andrew PetersJun 12, 2025

The Las Vegas Aces are trying to shake off a rough start to the season, and that challenge could get more difficult with their star potentially dealing with an injury.

A'Ja Wilson left Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Sparks with what Aces' PR described as a head injury, per the Las Vegas Review-Journal's Callie Fin. Wilson did not return as Las Vegas lost 97-89.

Wilson had 13 points on 2-of-12 from the field in Wednesday's loss. Jackie Young had 34 and Chelsea Gray added 28, but it wasn't enough on a night when Rickea Jackson had 30 points and Dearica Hamby and Azura Stevens each put up 19.

But Wednesday's loss is far from the biggest concern for the Aces with Wilson potentially dealing with a head injury. The extent of Wilson's injury is still unknown, but any time the three-time MVP is off the court, it's a major blow for Las Vegas.

Wilson, 28, leads the team in points (22.0), rebounds (9.9), assists (3.9), steals (2.0) and blocks (2.4). Already the anchor for the Aces, she's had to carry much more of a load this season following Kesley Plum's departure to the Sparks over the offseason.

Despite an outstanding start for Wilson, her team has struggled early on, dropping to 4-4 on Wednesday after the Aces lost two games in a row for the first time this year.

Las Vegas has a manageable opponent on deck as it will face the struggling Dallas Wings, but a tough stretch against the Phoenix Mercury, Minnesota Lynx and Seattle Storm follows. Those would be winnable games with Wilson on the court, but would be tough if she can't suit up.

If Wilson has to miss time, the Aces will likely use a smaller lineup or turn to backup center Elizabeth Kitley to fill in for her. Kitley is averaging just 2.2 points, playing 8.7 minutes per game.
