Rangers Reportedly in 'Advanced Discussions' on Chris Kreider Trade with Ducks

Timothy RappJun 10, 2025

The New York Rangers and Anaheim Ducks are reportedly in "advanced discussions" on a potential trade that would send the winger out West, per Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff.

Per that report, "There is no deal at this moment in time. But there is interest—and a framework. Both teams had other irons in the fire today. We'll see on Wednesday."

Vince Z. Mercogliano of USA Today reported that the deal's "framework is a prospect and a pick coming back to the Rangers with the Ducks taking Kreider’s full $6.5 million AAV."

Kreider, 34, had a down year in the 2024-25 season, posting 22 goals and eight assists. His 30 points were his fewest in a full season since his rookie year (he also had 30 points in the COVID-shortened 2020-21 campaign).

The two-time All-Star has become something of a Rangers' legend at this point, serving as one of the keystones of a solid New York team that reached the playoffs 10 times during his tenure in New York.

Kreider is still under contract for another two seasons and has expressed a desire to remain in New York.

"This is home for me," he told reporters in April. "This is the organization that gave me an opportunity to live out my dream. I've developed so many incredible relationships and grown up and spent so much time in this area. So, obviously, this is where I want to be and this is the group that I want to help in whatever fashion win hockey games."

But the Rangers didn't reach the postseason this year and may be in line for a retooling of the roster. If they go that route, moving on from Kreider would make sense.
