Eagles' Saquon Barkley Not Planning on Retiring 'Anytime Soon' After Viral Comments
Philadelphia Eagles superstar running back Saquon Barkley raised a few eyebrows last week when he said on Chris Long's Green Light podcast that he'll "probably be one of those guys that [will retire] out of nowhere. I'll probably just wake up one day, whether it's next year or two years or four years, and just be like, 'Yeah, it's over.'"
On Tuesday, however, Barkley clarified while speaking to reporters that he doesn't plan on retiring anytime soon.
"I feel like I'm entering my prime," he added.

That's good news for an Eagles team that signed the 28-year-old to a two-year, $41.2 million extension this offseason, keeping him under contract through the 2028 season. That came after Barkley was named the NFL's Offensive Player of the Year in 2024, rushing for 2,005 yards and 13 touchdowns while adding 33 catches for 278 yards and two scores.
He helped lead the Birds to a Super Bowl title in the process, with Philly fans hopeful that Barkley would remain a key fixture for many years to come. His initial retirement comments called that into question somewhat, though Barkley eased those concerns on Tuesday.
