Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
The former Pittsburgh Steeler officially traded in his black and yellow No. 2 jersey for a fresh green, white and black look, now donning a new number—lucky No. 7.
The new number marks a fresh start for the quarterback, who wore No. 1 in college at Georgia and Ohio State and with the Chicago Bears and No. 2 with the Pittsburgh Steelers .
It was first announced that Fields would be switching to No. 7 in a social media video posted by the team shortly after he signed in mid-March.
The Bears originally selected Fields with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft out of Ohio State. He spent three seasons in Chicago before his trade to Pittsburgh ahead of the 2024 season.
In his lone season with the Steelers, Fields played 10 games with six starts while sharing the position with veteran Russell Wilson. He threw for 1,106 yards, five touchdowns and one interception while posting a quarterback rating of 50.8.
The 26-year-old signed a two-year, $40 million contract with the Jets in March after one year in Pittsburgh.
Fields has already made waves and impressed many since his arrival in New York, especially given his connection to former Ohio State teammate and wide receiver Garrett Wilson.
"Of course, the Jets also have a new quarterback after signing Justin Fields in free agency," CBS Sports' Tyler Sullivan said. "How he looks working with the first team offense and his chemistry with former Ohio State teammate Garrett Wilson will be arguably the biggest storyline."
The Jets will kick off their regular season against the Steelers on Sept. 7.
