Spurs Reportedly Have Explored Trading No. 14 NBA Draft Pick amid Giannis, KD Rumors

The San Antonio Spurs have been linked to trade rumors surrounding star players Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kevin Durant, and it sounds like they're already exploring their options.

The Spurs own the Nos. 2 and 14 picks in the first round of the 2025 NBA draft, and Kevin O'Connor of Yahoo Sports reported that "sources say the Spurs have explored packaging the 14th pick with a player to upgrade the roster."

The Spurs are widely expected to use the No. 2 pick to select Rutgers star Dylan Harper, which would add another promising young talent to their core that includes the past two NBA Rookie of the Year recipients, Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle.

Still, O'Connor further explained that the Spurs could look to accelerate their window for title contention by acquiring one of the top stars available on the trade market this summer.

"Whether that upgrade is marginal or massive depends on who shakes loose, but it’s clear San Antonio isn’t waiting around. So if Giannis actually is available, maybe San Antonio’s willing to put Harper on the table," O'Connor stated.

The 2025 draft class is full of talented prospects who could attract teams looking to trade up, making San Antonio's 14th pick a valuable asset. B/R's Jonathan Wasserman predicted in his latest mock draft that the Spurs would use the No. 14 pick to select Washington State wing Cedric Howard, who was described as having "standout physical tools with a three-level scoring skill set, impressive passing flashes and clear defensive upside."

The prospect of drafting that type of player could be enough for the Spurs to convince teams to send them a major upgrade in exchange for the No. 14 selection.
