Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw Calls Cardinals 'Bush League' for Showing 2014 NLDS HR Video

Doric SamJun 8, 2025

Los Angeles Dodgers veteran ace Clayton Kershaw didn't appreciate the St. Louis Cardinals' attempt to throw him off his game ahead of Sunday's 7-3 win.

The Cardinals played a video of Kershaw surrendering a three-run home run in the 2014 National League Division Series during the pregame warmups on Sunday, and he made it clear that he wasn't pleased.

"I think it’s a little bush league, but I don’t expect anything less from these guys. So, it’s no worries, " Kershaw told reporters

Kershaw was pitching on short rest in Game 4 of the 2014 NLDS, and he was doing fairly well until he gave up a go-ahead three-run home run to Matt Adams in the seventh inning that helped the Cardinals win the series. It was a massively disappointing way for him to end a season that saw him take home his third NL Cy Young Award as well as the NL MVP, becoming the first pitcher to take home that award since Bob Gibson in 1968.

Despite St. Louis' attempt to conjure up some bad memories, Kershaw was locked in as he helped Los Angeles improve to 39-27. He pitched five innings and allowed just one earned run on six hits while throwing seven strikeouts. It was his first win of the season in his fifth start after opening the season on the injured list while recovering from offseason surgery.

The Cardinals had won the first two games against the Dodgers before Sunday's series finale, which likely factored into their confidence to play the video of Kershaw's decade-old blunder before the game. Unfortunately, St. Louis was the one that stumbled this time and fell to 36-29.

The Dodgers will return to action on Monday against the San Diego Padres, who sit just one game behind them for the NL West lead at 37-27. The Cardinals will try to bounce back against the Toronto Blue Jays (35-30).
