Jalen Milroe Was QB3 Behind Sam Darnold, Drew Lock at Seahawks' OTAs, Got Limited Reps
Rookie quarterback Jalen Milroe is facing an uphill climb in Seattle's quarterback competition ahead of the 2025 season.
As The Athletic's Michael-Shawn Dugar reported on Friday, Milroe is "behind not only Sam Darnold on the depth chart but also veteran Drew Lock" during the team's organized team activities and "worked mostly with the third-string unit, which didn't get as many reps as the starters (this is normal, to be clear)."
It's not a surprise that Sam Darnold is earning the first-team reps—the Seahawks signed him to a three-year, $100.5 million contract this offseason after his excellent 2024 campaign with the Minnesota Vikings (4,319 yards, 35 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, 66.2 completion percentage, 14-3 record as the starter).

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
It will be interesting to see whether Milroe can overtake Lock as the QB2 heading into the season, however. The 22-year-old was a third-round pick and is something of a project, given his need to develop as a pocket passer. The Seahawks may trust Lock more as a traditional backup in 2025, but could develop a package for the incredibly athletic Milroe.
Time will tell. For now, he's buried on the team's depth chart early in the offseason program.
