Journalism and Sovereignty are the two big draws for the Belmont.
Sovereignty beat out Journalism to win the Kentucky Derby, but then his team opted not to participate in the Preakness Stakes.
Journalism captured the Preakness in an incredible come-from-behind ride led by jockey Umberto Rispoli.
Saturday's showdown at Saratoga should determine which of the two horses is the best among the three-year-old thoroughbreds.
Both horses enter the Belmont with incredible records in 2025. Journalism's only loss in five races came to Sovereignty at the Derby, while Sovereignty owns three victories in four starts this year.
The rest of the six horses in the field couldn't combine for a track record as good as either of the two pre-race favorites, which is why it is expected to be a two-horse race.
Baeza could be the disruptor from the rest of the pack. Baeza took third behind the two Belmont favorites at the Kentucky Derby.
Journalism and Sovereignty will start on opposite ends of the post, so we could see them meet head-to-head by the halfway point of the race.
Journalism is the better overall horse, but Sovereignty found a way to win in their last meeting, which makes the Belmont feel like a toss-up.
Journalism's overall resume gives him the slightest of edges, but do not expect him to win in a landslide. He'll likely have to eke out a victory over his fellow Triple Crown race winner.
Prediction
- Journalism
- Sovereignty
