Buy or Sell Triple H vs. Rock Power Struggle, a Ronda Rousey Return, More WWE Rumors

Chris RolingJun 7, 2025

Typically, the weekend of WWE’s Money in the Bank PLE is pretty routine.

There’s usually big hype in the air, as the unpredictability of the men's and women’s briefcases matches and the possibility of shocking outcomes stemming from those briefcases over the next six months to a year makes for a super-hyped weekend.

Not this year, though.

Some of that hype remains, but it feels muted and in the background. One look at the rumor mill explains why. Rather than endless rumblings about possible briefcase winners and future plans, there’s more buzz about possible roster cuts and the how and why of WWE’s sudden downswing in public perception.

Here’s a quick look at the most notable rumors making the rounds around MITB and whether fans should buy or sell one each.

More WWE Cuts on the Way?

WWE Backlash

The Rumor

The roster cuts, highlighted by R-Truth, remain in the spotlight. According to Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer (h/t Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats), more cuts are likely on the way after this initial wave was made after Triple H’s roster shuffling that included free agents and call-ups.

Reaction

From a business standpoint, TKO being involved with WWE could mean more real-sports-like cuts from here on out. Meaning a bigger emphasis on salaries, age and usage. From an age and usage standpoint, somebody like R-Truth stands out in this way…it just could’ve been handled much better.

Buy or Sell?

One of the most unfortunate buys possible. WWE’s sudden corporate, inorganic feel gets underscored in a big way here as the company doesn’t seem to care about the optics around letting Superstars go despite how tuned-in to the process fans are in 2025.

Ronda Rousey Return?

2 of 5
WWE SummerSlam 2018

The Rumor

Ronda Rousey is back on the rumor mill. According to WrestleVotes (h/t Ortman), Rousey making an appearance at Evolution 2 next month is “a flip of a coin.”

Reaction

Rousey getting a spotlight one way or another at the all-women PLE would make some sense. And from a business standpoint, doing something shocking like that would highlight for fans that it’s not a PLE on the calendar to miss.

Buy or Sell?

Sell. Rousey coming back, especially given the TKO connections and UFC backdrop now, almost feels inevitable. But there surely would’ve been more buzz around it now. And regardless of how bad things have been lately, it’s hard to imagine WWE leans into the terrible optics of paying up huge for a Rousey comeback right now.

Big Name on his Way Out?

Monday Night RAW

The Rumor

Is Karrion Kross on his way out the door? According to Fightful (h/t Ortman), WWE has yet to approach Kross about a contract extension despite the deal apparently expiring this year.

Reaction

Kross recently went viral for a supposed shoot promo in which he appeared to vent frustrations about many things, including pro wrestling as a whole. Fans made the connection that perhaps it signaled a last-ditch effort or storyline with his future an unknown and it certainly feels right roughly a month later.

Buy or Sell?

Buy. Kross is one of those guys who kept getting on-and-off pushes before rug-pulls. It feels like WWE can’t find a spot for his obvious talent on these cards and that he might seek bigger roles elsewhere once his contract expires.

Triple H vs. The Rock?

4 of 5
WWE Backlash

The Rumor

WWE fans have long made the connection that perhaps The Rock and Triple H aren’t on the same page, leading to some of the odd decisions lately. On the “Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling” show, Jonathan Coachman (h/t Ortman) said that there is a “big power struggle” unfolding backstage, alluding to Rock and Triple H.

Reaction

On one hand, these types of reports were inevitable, especially once Rock bowed out of WrestleMania this year after being inserted in John Cena’s storyline. But on the other, it sure feels like this would explain a WWE in disarray on many levels.

Buy or Sell?

Buy. Triple H is probably a stand-in for his own handcrafted golden era of the last few years before the TKO deal. Rock is more a stand-in for the latter on the corporate side. WWE certainly feels like a company heading in the more corporate direction of the latter.

WWE Superstar Reaction Backstage?

WWE Saturday Night's Main Event

The Rumor

If all of the negatives mentioned above are impacting fans, it’s certainly impacting talent backstage. That’s a theme from Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp (h/t Ortman), who reported that some Superstars are considering all of their options well before contract expirations right now.

Reaction

Note that this isn’t saying WWE superstars are about to run off to AEW. But it does speak to a shift in perception that WWE will have a tough time correcting. Letting go of R-Truth so unceremoniously is reason enough.

Buy or Sell?

Buy. Many wrestlers assuredly keep their options open. But there’s a sort of exclamation point on the whole thing now, given WWE’s celebrity-fueled, corporate-feeling shift starting with the Raw on Netflix era.
