Belmont Stakes 2025 Horses and Jockeys with Best Odds at Saratoga Race

Two horses stand out among the eight entrants for the 2025 Belmont Stakes.

Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty and Preakness Stakes winner Journalism have the two lowest odds to win Saturday's race at Saratoga.

Journalism is a slight favorite over Sovereignty at 8-5, while the Derby winner checks in at 2-1.

Journalism

Journalism is the best horse in the field on paper.

The Preakness winner has five victories in six starts in 2025. The lone exception was a second-place finish behind Sovereignty at the Kentucky Derby.

Jockey Umberto Rispoli led Journalism on an incredible comeback at the Preakness, but do not expect that to be the path to the winners' circle at the Belmont.

Journalism's commanded most of the races he's been a part of, and with a smaller field in play, there's more room for him to run on a clear track.

The only question mark about Journalism's run through the Triple Crown races was Rispoli's lack of experience in the high-profile American races, but there are no longer doubts after leading the horse to a pair of top-two finishes.

Sovereignty

Sovereignty pulled off a minor upset over Journalism at the Kentucky Derby.

Journalism was the favorite in that race, but Sovereignty was one of a few horses that closed with odds lower than 10-1.

The Derby was the last time we saw Sovereignty race. The team behind the horse opted to skip the Preakness and the Triple Crown quest that came with it.

Sovereignty owns three wins and a second-place finish in his last four races, so he is the best challenger on paper to Journalism.

Jockey Junior Alvarado has more experience racing in Triple Crown events, but his first Triple Crown win came at the Derby aboard Sovereignty.

The two favorites should put on quite the race at Saratoga, where an upset seems unlikely to happen.
