Jannik Sinner Defeats Bublik, Updated French Open Men's Bracket at Roland-Garros

Scott PolacekJun 4, 2025

Jannik Sinner is two wins away from the first Roland-Garros title of his career.

The top seed in the men's singles draw cruised to a 6-1, 7-5, 6-0 victory over Alexander Bublik in Wednesday's quarterfinal showdown and clinched a spot in the semifinal. The next step will be far more difficult, as he will face either No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev or No. 6 seed Novak Djokovic.

That Sinner advanced came as no surprise.

He entered play having yet to drop a set in the tournament and was in a familiar setting after advancing to the semifinals last year. While he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in those semifinals and the legendary Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals in 2020, this was not an unfamiliar stage for the 23-year-old.

Sinner also won three of his previous four head-to-head matchups against Bublik, although the latter won the most recent one in 2023 at Halle.

It was clear from the start there would be no repeat upset.

Sinner broke Bublik's first two service games and had no trouble while winning 83 percent of his first-service points in the opening set. That was a formula for a quick first set, and Bublik managed to win just one game while immediately falling behind.

To Bublik's credit, he put up more of a fight in the second set as the two players combined to hold serve through the first 10 games.

However, Sinner broke to move ahead 6-5 and then finished the set on service. It was more of the same for the top seed, as he won 78 percent of his first service points and 85 percent of his second service points. That ability to prevent Bublik from picking up key break points kept the challenger at bay even during the back and forth.

There was no doubt about the outcome by the third set, as Sinner broke the first service game and never looked back.

While Bublik offered little resistance Wednesday, Sinner's next showdown could be one of the matches of the entire tournament regardless of whether it is against Zverev or Djokovic. The latter is a tennis legend with 24 Grand Slam titles, while the former has a 4-3 career advantage in head-to-head matchups with Sinner.

It will be a championship-like test in the semifinals and one the top seed will need to overcome if he is going to lift the trophy as the Roland-Garros champion.
