Ravens' Derrick Henry Says He'd Beat Lamar Jackson in a Race on Video

Julia StumbaughJun 3, 2025

Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry believes he could outrun two-time MVP winning quarterback Lamar Jackson in a race.

When asked on the Dan Patrick Show whether he would bet on himself or Jackson in a race, Henry smiled and said, "Oh, I like me."

The star running back also told Patrick he believes his 40-yard dash time would be "probably the same when I ran it during the combine."

Henry ran 40 yards in 4.54 seconds ahead of the 2016 NFL draft.

He more recently added to his resume by clocking a top speed of 21.72 miles per hour in Week 7 of the 2024 campaign, the 11th fastest speed recorded among all ball carriers last season, according to NFL Next Gen Stats.

Jackson didn't run the 40-yard dash ahead of the 2018 draft, although he reportedly clocked an unofficial 4.34-second time at Louisville in 2017.

Last season he led all quarterbacks with 915 rushing yards and recorded a career-high top speed of 21.25 miles per hour in Week 17, per NFL Next Gen Stats.

Henry isn't the only NFL player who's recently been discussing potential 40-yard dash times.

Olympic sprinter Noah Lyles and Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill publicly discussed their respective dash times before agreeing to race one another in the coming months.

Ravens fans may not be getting an official race between the team's rushing yard leaders. They will still hope to see both Henry and Jackson show off their speed this fall as Baltimore makes a push for a third straight finish on top of the AFC North next season.
