Frances Tiafoe Loses to Musetti, Updated French Open Men's Bracket at Roland-Garros
No. 8 Lorenzo Musetti defeated No. 15 Frances Tiafoe 6-2, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 in the French Open quarterfinals on Tuesday at Roland-Garros.
Tiafoe was hoping to advance to the French Open semifinals for the first time in his career, but he couldn't stave off a spirited effort from Musetti.
Tiafoe got off to a slow start in the first set, allowing Musetti to win 75 percent of his first-serve points and cruise to a 6-2 victory. However, the American fought back in the second set and pulled off a 6-4 win. Tiafoe staved off all three of Musetti's break point opportunities and converted one of his two chances to help secure the win.
The third set was a back-and-forth affair with neither player losing on serve until Musetti went ahead 6-5 and broke Tiafoe. Musetti faced little resistance as he cruised to a 6-2 win in the fourth set to advance to the semifinals.
Tiafoe was not his sharpest, arguing with the chair umpire over a line call at one point. He had 12 unforced errors in both the third and fourth sets as his run at Roland-Garros came to an end.
Musetti will face the winner of Tuesday's other quarterfinal between No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz, the defending French Open champion, and No. 12 Tommy Paul.
