After facing some adversity in her three-set win over Elena Rybakina in the fourth round, Swiatek returned to form with a dominant showing in the opening set. She staved off all three of Svitolina's break-point opportunities and won 71 percent of her second-serve points.
Svitolina refused to go down quietly and jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the second set with a break point in the third game. However, Swiatek broke her right back and won her next serve to tie things up.
From there, Swiatek and Svitolina traded points back and forth to tie things at 5-5. The three-time defending champ showed her mettle by breaking Svitolina to take a one-point advantage. While serving for the chance to advance to the semifinals, Swiatek quickly converted the match point to send Svitolina home.
The win for Swiatek creates a marquee semifinal matchup against top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka on Thursday. The two of them have met 12 times in their respective careers, with Swiatek winning eight times. This will be their first-ever meeting at Roland-Garros.
