Texas vs. Texas Tech Championship Set for College Softball World Series Bracket 2025

Andrew PetersJun 2, 2025

The Lone Star state will be well-represented in this year's Women's College World Series championship.

No. 6 Texas downed No. 7 Tennessee to advance to the final on Monday before No. 12 Texas Tech ended No. 2 Oklahoma's championship streak to move on.

This year's matchup will feature two teams from the same state for the first time in 21 years.

Though Oklahoma came into the Women's College World Series riding the momentum of four consecutive championships, this year's Sooners team had plenty of flaws, and Texas Tech exposed them.

Sam Landry had a decent day on the mound for Oklahoma, giving up just three runs, but Texas Tech was even better on defense. NiJaree Canady allowed five hits and a walk while picking up eight strikeouts on the day. Canady, who has a 0.86 ERA on the year, did allow Oklahoma to tie things up with a two-run homer in the seventh inning, but prevented the Sooners from taking the lead.

That set up the Red Raiders' offense to win it in the bottom of the seventh when Lauren Allred hit a sacrifice fly that drove in the winning run.

After getting the win over a college softball powerhouse, Texas Tech will now get a chance to take down its in-state rival.

Texas got past No. 7-seeded Tennessee after the Lady Vols survived an extra-innings thriller against UCLA. The Longhorns' offense was far from its best on Monday as it recorded just five hits and two runs, but it was enough to advance to a second consecutive championship series.

The Red Raiders and Longhorns have both had outstanding seasons, but they've played two completely different games to find success. Texas Tech is a defensive-minded team, posting the best team ERA in the country and collecting the most shutouts in softball this year.

Texas, meanwhile, lives and dies at the plate. The Longhorns have the second-best batting average in college softball, the fourth-most RBI and have collected 90 home runs to Texas Tech's 60.

Considering the two team's different approaches, it should make for an interesting championship series.
