Bryce Huff Traded to 49ers, Eagles Receive 2026 Mid-Round NFL Draft Pick

Scott PolacekJun 2, 2025

Bryce Huff is officially headed to the San Francisco 49ers.

The Philadelphia Eagles announced Monday they traded the defensive end to the NFC West team for a 2026 mid-round draft pick. The deal is pending a physical.

This deal is anything but a surprise, as ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Friday the two teams were "working to finalize a trade" involving Huff. Schefter also noted the defensive end "reworked his contract to help facilitate the trade" that reunites him with former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh.

Saleh is now the defensive coordinator in San Francisco.

From Philadelphia's perspective, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported it will save $7.7 million with this move:

Huff played the first four seasons of his career for the Jets from 2020 through 2023 and was a modest contributor until his last year with the AFC East team. It was then he turned the corner into an impact performer with a career-best 10 sacks during the 2023 campaign.

Philadelphia then signed him to a three-year, $51 million deal with the hope he would be a game-changing presence along its defensive line.

While the Eagles won the Super Bowl in his only season with the team, he did not live up to expectations on an individual level with just 2.5 sacks in 12 games. He also failed to register a single sack during the team's postseason run.

Huff now rejoins Saleh, who coached him to his best season, for a 49ers defensive line that has undergone quite the revamp this offseason.

Nick Bosa is back, but the team released Javon Hargrave, Maliek Collins and Leonard Floyd. It also drafted Mykel Williams, Alfred Collins and CJ West, giving it a number of young contributors who could form a solid core for years to come.

If Huff can return to the form he demonstrated in 2023, San Francisco has the talent to be one of the best defensive lines in the league. And he should have plenty of opportunities to do just that, as Bosa will consistently draw double teams to open up rushing lanes for himself and others.
