Travis Etienne Trade Rumors Are 'Absolutely Inaccurate,' Jaguars HC Liam Coen Says

Andrew PetersJun 2, 2025

Amid trade speculation following Travis Etienne's absence from the Jacksonville Jaguars' OTAs, head coach Liam Coen shut down any trade talks regarding the running back.

"He's done a great job. I don't really understand some of the stuff I've seen out there," Coen said, per the Jacksonville Florida Times-Union's Demetrius Harvey. "That's absolutely inaccurate."

The trade speculation surrounding Etienne is a bit understandable given how the last few months have shaken out. Etienne, who is about to enter his fifth season, had the worst year of his career in 2024, rushing for 558 yards and a pair of touchdowns after recording back-to-back seasons with 1,000 or more rushing yards.

After the down year for Etienne, the Jaguars drafted running back Bhayshul Tuten in the fourth round and running back LeQuint Allen in the seventh round of the NFL draft.

Jacksonville also has another young running back on its roster in Tank Bigsby, who had a better year than Etienne a season ago.

Considering those factors, it seemed realistic that the Jaguars could move on from Etienne. After all, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported less than a month ago that there were "multiple people in the league who believe the new regime is not so high" on Etienne. Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer also reported in May that an Etienne trade might still be on the table.

Despite plenty of trade buzz, Coen made it clear that the team isn't interested in moving on from Etienne. Instead, the Jaguars will look to get the most out of him before he hits free agency next offseason.

Etienne will play on the fifth year of his rookie contract and will earn $6.143 million after the team picked up a club option. After the down year last year, he should be motivated to bounce back and earn a big second contract.
