Belmont Stakes 2025 Post Positions: Complete Listing for Every Horse
There will be no Triple Crown up for grabs during the 2025 Belmont in Saratoga, New York, but there will be quite the matchup nonetheless, as Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty and Preakness victor Journalism will go hoof-to-hoof.
On Monday, the post positions and odds were announced for the eight-horse field ahead of Saturday's Belmont. They are as follows:
- Hill Road, 10-1
2. Sovereignty, 2-1
3. Rodriguez, 6-1
4. Uncaged, 30-1
5. Crudo, 15-1
6. Baeza, 4-1
7. Journalism, 8-5
8. Heart of Honor, 30-1
While Sovereignty and Journalism are the heavy favorites, don't dismiss a few other horses just yet.
Baeza ran third at the Kentucky Derby, second at the Santa Anita Derby and has a career-high 101 Beyer, so he's a horse to keep in mind if you don't want to go with the obvious favorites.
Rodriguez was scratched from the Kentucky Derby but won the Wood Memorial and is another potential upset candidate. Crudo, Hill Road, Heart of Honor and Uncaged are much longer shots than the top four options, however.
As for the two main contenders, Sovereignty bested favorite Journalism on a wet track at the Kentucky Derby before skipping the Preakness.
Journalism, meanwhile, is a fast-track dynamo and pulled off one of the most impressive wins you'll ever see at the Preakness, battling through rough traffic to mount a thrilling come-from-behind victory.
The assumption is that one of these two horses will become something of a legend on Tuesday, marking their place among the most impressive non-Triple Crown winners in the sport's history. Granted, six other horses will have the chance to destroy that narrative, but it would be a pretty major surprise if any did.
