CCU's Schnall Rips Florida's O'Sullivan in Viral Video over Reported Staff Altercation
Coastal Carolina baseball head coach Kevin Schnall responded to a reported altercation between Florida coach Kevin O’Sullivan and staff at the 2025 NCAA Division I baseball tournament.
“One last thing I have is I have to say this and I don’t know if I’m supposed to say this or not,” Schnall told reporters (h/t On3.com's Thomas Goldkamp). “But I believe in standing up for what’s right, and what transpired this morning on our field, another coach disrespected our associate AD, who works as hard as anybody in our entire program. He disrespected our field crew, who are the salt of the earth. These guys would do anything for our program. It’s not OK. And this needs to be brought up.”
"Absolutely disrespectful," he added. "As a coach it’s our job to mentor young kids. And the way he treated the two site reps, the way he treated our associate AD, the way he treated our field crew is absolutely unacceptable. And I’m really, that’s what I’m most disappointed about."
O’Sullivan was reportedly upset with a scheduling change in the tournament, which led to the altercation.
Video of an exchange involving O'Sullivan surfaced on Monday:
O'Sullivan issued an apology on Monday:
Florida was initially set to face East Carolina at 12:06 p.m. ET, but the start time was pushed back to 1:06 p.m. due to a game from the previous night running late.
After the Gators were eliminated from the tournament with an 11-4 loss to the Pirates, O’Sullivan revealed that he didn't have an issue with the way he handled the situation.
"I don’t want to address that right now. I handled it properly,” O'Sullivan said, via Goldkamp. “At the end of the game, yes.”
Florida has made the College World Series nine times under the 56-year-old, which included a 2017 championship.
Schnall's team was the one that ended up advancing beyond the 2025 Conway Regional on Sunday, however. Coastal Carolina took down East Carolina by the final score of 1-0 to punch its ticket to the super regionals for the first time since 2016.
The Chanticleers will now look to defeat Auburn and secure a spot in the College World Series.
Schnall took exception to the way O’Sullivan reportedly interacted with staff members first, though.
