Cubs' Kyle Tucker Exits vs. Reds After Suffering Finger Injury

Julia StumbaughJun 1, 2025

Chicago Cubs right fielder Kyle Tucker exited Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Reds with a jammed right finger, according to the Cubs' broadcast.

Tucker had been caught stealing on a hard slide into second base in the bottom of the first inning.

Tucker took two more at-bats before exiting the game. He was replaced in right field by Vidal Brujan.

The 28-year-old had originally reached base when he was hit in the foot by a pitch during the first inning.

He scored on a Pete Crow-Armstrong single in the third, then fouled out on the Cubs' final out of the fourth. He was replaced by Brujan in the outfield at the start of the fifth inning.

Brujan had appeared in 17 games as a utility player for Chicago heading into Sunday, batting .278 with two RBI over the stretch.

Tucker missed almost half of the Houston Astros' 2024 campaign after suffering a right shin fracture on a foul ball.

Following his December trade to Chicago, Tucker has so far appeared in each of the Cubs' first 59 games of the season.

Heading into Sunday, he was slashing .283/.391/.520 with 12 home runs and 39 RBI to help the Cubs gain a 3.5-game lead on the NL Central.

Tucker's arrival in Chicago is also part of the reason the Cubs have been one of the highest-scoring teams in MLB so far this season. Only the Los Angeles Dodgers had more hits than the Cubs' 535 heading into Sunday.

The Cubs are hitting the road for their next three series, starting on Tuesday with a three-game set against the Washington Nationals.
