Saturday Highlights: Sinner, Draper Put On Absolute Clinics

3 of 6
French Open Tennis Tournament. Roland-Garros 2025.
Jannik Sinner

Just how dominant was Jannik Sinner in his 6-0, 6-1, 6-2 defeat of Jiri Lehecka?

Consider this: It took Lehecka until the 12th game to get on board.

Sinner coasted to a straight-set victory in just 95 minutes.

From the jump, Lehecka's passiveness from the baseline allowed Sinner ample time to pick him apart with his blistering groundstrokes.

Matching the Italian's physicality was unattainable, and as the rallies intensified, the unforced errors only grew for the Czech.

Lehecka briefly maintained competitiveness in the third set by using the serve-and-volley strategy to reduce Sinner's reaction time.

But, even then, Sinner continued to find ways to dominate.

Jack Draper also put on a clinic in the third round, defeating red-hot 18-year-old Brazilian sensation Joao Fonseca 6-2, 6-4, 6-2.

The No. 5 seed was otherworldly on his first serve, winning 37 of 40 points.

The Brit's consistency as the match progressed wore down Fonseca, who committed three fewer unforced errors in this match alone (38) than in his previous two combined.

Barring something unlikely, Sinner and Draper should both reach the quarterfinals.

Saturday Highlights: Top Three American Women Survive and Advance

4 of 6
French Open Tennis Tournament. Roland-Garros 2025.

Coco Gauff's victory was far from straightforward.

The one-time major champion dismantled Marie Bouzkova in the opening set with signature baseline aggression and forceful yet consistent groundstrokes.

However, the second set presented a different story as the two players traded breaks in eight consecutive games.

Gauff's baseline aggression dwindled, and unforced errors significantly increased.

Meanwhile, Bouzkova began grinding out each point, oftentimes coming out on the winning end of intense rallies, before Gauff escaped in a one-sided second-set tiebreaker, winning the match 6-1, 7-6 (3).

Like Gauff, No. 3 seed Jessica Pegula also struggled, needing three sets to overcome Marketa Vondrousova.

After winning 16 of 18 points on her first serve in the opening set, Vondrousova was broken six times in the final two sets, as Pegula found her return game, prevailing 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Madison Keys, like Pegula, also had to battle back from a deficit.

After fending off three match points, the world No. 8 immediately broke former French Open finalist Sofia Kenin before holding serve for the match in a three-set thriller.

Keys was nowhere near her best down the stretch but did enough to keep her Roland-Garros title hopes alive, winning 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.

Sunday predictions: Alcaraz Over Shelton, Rune Over Musetti

5 of 6
2025 French Open - Day Six
Carlos Alcaraz

Ben Shelton has been performing exceptionally well in the first three rounds.

But now he's about to face the first real challenge in defending champion Carlos Alcaraz.

The Spaniard has won 18 of 19 matches on clay this season and, despite struggling in his previous match, enters as the overwhelming favorite.

Shelton has often been able to show up in clutch moments and obviously has firepower, but let's remember that this is a clay surface and that power is minimized on such a surface.

Alcaraz has been serving better than ever and playing his most consistent tennis yet.

While Shelton can hang in there with his firepower, he'll need an all-around consistent performance to keep this close.

Even then, that doesn't seem like enough.

Holger Rune and Lorenzo Musetti square off in the day's final men's match, which promises to be a thrilling encounter.

While not much separates the two opponents, Rune is slightly more consistent and has achieved more success on the French clay, having reached the quarterfinal in two of the previous three years.

This has the makings of a five-set thriller, and Rune has the slightest edge.

Sunday predictions: Sabalenka Drops Her First Set, Swiatek Continues To Coast

6 of 6
2025 French Open - Day Six
Aryna Sabalenka

Amanda Anisimova is one of the few players on tour to have success against Aryna Sabalenka.

The 23-year-old American is 5-2 against the three-time Grand Slam champion, including a 3-1 record on clay.

However, that is likely to change tomorrow.

The 2019 French Open semifinalist is no match for Sabalenka, who is having another dominant year on the clay surface.

Anisimova can grab a set, but anything more will require a near-perfect effort and a major dip in play from Sabalenka.

Meanwhile, three-time defending champion Iga Swiatek looks to continue her Roland-Garros run with a Round of 16 matchup against Elena Rybakina.

Rybakina enters on the heels of a dominant straight-set win over No. 21 seed Jelena Ostapenko, where she won 80 percent of points on her first serve.

Rybakina can keep things close with her serve, but she's lacking the consistency to really push Swiatek.
