Kliff Kingsbury Expects Jayden Daniels to 'Take a Big Jump' in Year 2 with Commanders

Timothy RappMay 28, 2025

Jayden Daniels was the best rookie in the NFL last season. Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury believes he's just getting started.

"You can see the comfort level was there this year," he told reporters Wednesday. "I mean, just watching him move around, he's not thinking as much, he's playing fast, and letting his natural gifts kind of take over, and that's what we want to see. So, I expect him to take a big jump."

That's terrible news for the rest of the NFL.

Daniels, 24, threw for 3,568 yards, 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 2024, completing 69 percent of his passes while taking 47 sacks. He also rushed for 891 yards and six scores and not only led Washington to a 12-5 record, but also a berth in the NFC Championship Game.

He was named the Offensive Rookie of the Year, and for good reason—it was one of the greatest seasons from a first-year quarterback in NFL history.

And Kingsbury believes he's only going to improve.

"He works extremely hard," he told reporters. "I mean, that's all he kind of thinks about is how he can get better and watches a ton of film, watches a ton of football overall. And so, that organically really takes care of itself in a way when you have a guy who wants to be that great. He is very highly motivated to be as good as he can be, and that’s always exciting for the organization."
