Wimbledon 2015 Results: Friday Winners, Scores, Stats and Singles Draw Update

Steve SilvermanJul 10, 2015

One year ago, Novak Djokovic defeated Roger Federer in the Wimbledon final and claimed the All England championship.

Federer will get his chance for revenge on Sunday because both men made it through their semifinal matches with straight-set victories.

The top-seeded Djokovic squared off with 21st-seeded Richard Gasquet in the first semifinal, and the French challenger pushed the defending champion hard in the first set. However, after the two men split the first 12 games, Djokovic was much the best in the tiebreaker, as he took it by a 7-2 margin.

Gasquet seemed to be disheartened by his loss in the first set, and he didn't have much to offer the rest of the way. Djokovic simply wore down his rival from that point, and he closed out a 7-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory.

Djokovic appeared to have some trouble with his left shoulder, and he was treated for it during the second set on two occasions. However, he downplayed the situation after the match.

"It's nothing that worries me, honestly," Djokovic said when he met the press. "It'll be fine for the next match."

Djokovic will be playing for his third Wimbledon title and his ninth Grand Slam championship.

The second-seeded Federer had a much tougher assignment against third-seeded Andy Murray. The two battled on even terms throughout much of the match, but Federer was able to break Murray at the end of all three sets and recorded a 7-5, 7-5, 6-4 victory.

Murray appeared to play very well throughout the match, but Federer was able to turn up the heat at the most decisive moments.

Federer has been serving very well throughout the fortnight, and that continued in his victory over Murray. Federer faced a break point in his first service game of the match that he successfully fought off and did not face another the rest of the match.

Murray said Federer's serving was the difference in the match. "That's definitely the best he's served against me," Murray said.

Federer served 20 aces in the three sets, and he had extraordinary success when he put his first serve in play. Federer won 58 of 69 points (84 percent) on those occasions, while Murray won 56 of 69 points (71 percent) when he got his first serve in.

Additionally, Federer had a 56-11 ratio of winners to unforced errors, while Murray was just 35-17 in that category.

Federer remembers his five-set defeat to Djokovic in last year's final, and he wants to turn it around. "I really hope I can get this one on Sunday," Federer said.

Djokovic's serving edge was also decisive in his match. He connected on 12 aces and was successful on 74 percent of his first serves. Gasquet had a difficult time finding his serving rhythm, and he only connected on 51 percent of his first serves. That's not going to get the job done against the No. 1 player in the world.

Djokovic's athleticism was on display throughout the match as he was able to attack the net frequently. He went to the net 39 times and won 26 of those points. Gasquet was successful 18 of 31 times when he went to the net.

Djokovic knows he will be facing his most difficult challenge against Federer.

The two men will square off Sunday at Wimbledon in one of the most anticipated championships in recent memory. The 33-year-old Federer is gunning for his eighth Wimbledon title, while Djokovic is on top of his game and will not give up his title easily.
