Osaka Loses to Badosa, Updated French Open Women's Bracket, Roland-Garros Results
Naomi Osaka's appearance at the French Open turned out to be a brief one, as she lost her opening-round match to No. 10 Paula Badosa on Monday.
Badosa dropped the first set before rebounding to win the final two and defeat Osaka 6-7 (1-7), 6-1, 6-4.

Roland Garros has never been kind to Osaka. The 27-year-old has never advanced beyond the third round and has just two match wins in her last four appearances at this tournament dating back to 2021.
The victory sends Badosa to the second round where she will take on the winner of the McCartney Kessler-Elena-Gabriela Ruse match.
Osaka was close to the top of her game in the first set. She had four aces and 17 winners to move out in front early. There were some warning signs within that performance, though, most notably her 22 unforced errors.
The lack of consistency with her serve after the opening set was a big difference in the match. Badosa was 5-of-8 on break-point conversions in the match, with four coming in the final two sets (2-of-2 in the third).
Osaka was coming off a solid run on clay at the Italian Open as a tune-up for Roland Garros. She advanced to the fourth round before falling to Peyton Stearns.
Badosa was a step up in competition for her first test at the French Open. The Spanish star is coming off her best performance in a grand-slam tournament at the Australian Open in January when she advanced to the semifinal before losing to Aryna Sabalenka.
The rust Badosa showed early against Osaka might be a product of having only played two matches since March 23 when she defeated Clara Tauson in the third round of the Miami Open.
A back injury forced Badosa to withdraw from her fourth-round match in Miami and kept her out of action until the Strasbourg Open last week.
If Badosa is capable of playing at the level she showed in the final two sets against Osaka, she could be a potential spoiler for the very top seeds in the tournament.
