Saturday Recap

No. 4 Vanderbilt def. No. 8 Tennessee, 10-0

There will be no repeat champion at this year's SEC tournament.

The Vols, who shook off a mediocre regular season and had a strong start to the postseason, crumbled against a potent Vanderbilt offense on Saturday.

The Commodores got things going early with an RBI single in the first before a four-run second inning. Jacob Humphrey, Mike Mancini and Rustan Rigdon all drove in runs to make it an early 5-0 lead. Vanderbilt then capitalized on some mistakes from the Vols, scoring two runs on wild pitches in the third.

Tennessee nearly cut into the 7-0 lead in the fourth after getting a pair of runners in scoring position, but Dean Curley tried to capitalize on a wild throw and was thrown out at home.

The Commodores put themselves in position for the run-rule victory in the bottom of the sixth when Mancini, R.J. Austin and Riley Nelson drove runs in.

Tennessee went down without a run in the top of the seventh, sealing the win for Vandy and giving the Vols their first shutout loss since April 2024. Their last shutout was also against Vanderbilt.

Vandy pitchers Cody Bowker and Connor Fennell combined for the shutout, picking up 11 strikeouts and allowing just four hits. Bowker, who accounted for nine strikeouts, earned the win.

With the win, Vanderbilt is just one game away from winning its second SEC championship in the last three years. The Commodores will face Ole Miss on Sunday.

Ole Miss 2, LSU 0

There was little offense to be found in Saturday's semifinal matchup, but Ole Miss found just enough.

The Rebels came out hot with an opposite home run from Will Furniss in the top of the first inning.

Ole Miss added another run in the fourth thanks to an RBI single from Campbell Smithwick, but from there it was a pitcher's duel.

Cade Townsend got the start for the Rebels and went 4.2 innings, giving up just two hits and picking up three strikeouts.

Gunnar Dennis relieved Townsend and picked up right where he left off. The lefty pitched 2.1 innings, picking up a pair of strikeouts and allowing no hits. Will McCausland and Connor Spencer closed things out in the eighth and ninth, giving up no hits and combining for three strikeouts.

Spencer got into a dangerous situation in the bottom of the ninth with a runner in scoring position with two outs, but got the final out to seal the victory for the Rebels.

Ole Miss did just enough to get the win on Saturday, but it will need more offense on Sunday against Vanderbilt to clinch its first SEC championship since 2018.
